Army Ducks

Cotton Army Ducks

Army Ducks are the disciplined cousins of the Number Duck family. Plied yarns in both directions. Tighter weave. Smoother finish. They sit somewhere between a Number Duck and a Single Fill Duck — a crossbreed, like a liger. A liger is what happens when a lion and a tiger get along. It’s unexpected. It works. So does this fabric.

The name comes from decades of military use: tents, canopies, and covers that had to survive the field. They did. They still do.

Army Duck – 10.10 Oz.

  • Construction : Yarns : 14/2 x 14/2
  • Thread Count 54 x 42
  • Weight : ~10.10 Oz/Sq.Yd (342 gm)
  • Stock Widths : 37″ & 63″
  • Description : The one the military keeps coming back to.

This is the most popular Army Duck we sell. It’s been used for military tents and canopies for decades — which means it’s been rained on, baked in the sun, and asked to survive conditions most fabrics never see. It’s still here.

Plied yarns in both directions. 54 x 42 construction. Smooth. Tight. Strong enough for a boat cover. Clean enough for a designer tote bag. It’s not the heaviest fabric we make. It doesn’t need to be.

Where it goes: Military tents. Marine covers. Tipis. Artist canvas. Designer tote bags. Anything that needs to look good while working hard.

Army Duck – 12.65 Oz.

  • Construction : Yarns : 12/2 x 12/2
  • Thread Count 60 x 40
  • Weight : ~12.65 Oz/Sq.Yd (429 gsm)
  • Stock Widths : 37″
  • Description : Heavyweight. Nearly 100 threads per square inch. Good luck finding a gap.

Packing 100 threads into a square inch using plied, coarse yarns  is the kind of challenge weaving mills lose sleep over. Ours figured it out. Years of expertise on shuttle looms and Sulzer looms — woven edge or tucked-in, depending on what you need.

This is the heavier sibling to the 10.10 oz. Same tight construction. More weight. More strength. Depending on the time & the day, we can get wider goods too (63″).

Where it goes: Military tents. Marine covers. Tipis. Anywhere the wind shows up and the fabric needs to hold its ground.
